BEVAC Trains Carpenters In Katavi Region On How Best To Produce Improved Beehives

AT LEAST 15 carpenters from Katavi Region have successfully received a special training over how professional to construct improved beehives.


The vital six -days training which eyes to help heighten performance of beekeeping (apiculture) sector in the country was held in Mlele District of Katavi Region from 13th to 18th November.

The helpful training was organised by the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel) through the Beekeeping Value Chain Support (BEVAC) project, funded by European Union (EU).

The training was conducted under the facilitation of the Beekeeping Training Institute in collaboration with TanziFarm Tanzania Limited. 

The training attracted five local artisanal carpenters from Mlele district, four from Nsimbo, as well as the six carpenters from the Tanganyika District. 

Giving an interview to this publication,  BEVAC’s Manager, Martin Mgallah expressed that useful training targeted local artisans who dwells in adjacent to beekeepers.

"The vision behind this training is to ensure that the beekeepers in Katavi Region are in acess to abundant, but improved beehives that's why we have decided to impart the carpenters in the region with the relevant skills so that that can stand a better professional side to produce the beehives with the most needed standards, " he detailed. 



And he added,  the other target was to ensure the beekeepers are getting the beehives at affordable prices.

During the closing of training, the District Beekeeping Officer Mr. Benard Ntiliyo, who was speaking on behalf of the District Executive Drector, Ms. Teresia Aloyce Irafay, handed over certificate of completion and one completed improved beehive to each of  participants as a sign of achievement.


The robust project, BEVAC, is being implemented by Enabel, the Belgian Development Agency under the coordination of the Ministry of Tourism and Natural Resources for Mainland and Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, Natural Resources and Livestock in Zanzibar.
