TRA Collect Over 27trn/- Revenues Last Fiscal Year

THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has successfully managed to collect at least 27.64trn/- during the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024.

Following the impressive development, TRA has hailed traders, as well as other tax- payers in the country for standing at forefront in implementing their statutory role to pay due taxes on time, thus  enabling it to net the reasonable revenues.

Mr Hudson Kamoga, the TRA's Acting Director for Taxpayer's Education and Communication expressed that the amount collected was a major milestone achieved by the country's tax- collecting Authority, urged the Tanzanians in the tax paying corridor to voluntarily continue  fulfilling their tax- paying obligations.

"TRA wishes to extend deep appreciations to the country’s traders, service providers and the Tanzanians as a whole for being trustful in paying taxes, the patriotic development which gives the Government strong teeth to accomplish numerous initiatives meant to solve varied social challenges towards the public, as well as implementing development projects across the country," he appreciated. 

He was speaking to reporters in the ongoing Dar es Salaam International Trader Fair (DITF 2024) Exhibitions which is taking shape at the Sabasaba grounds in the Tanzania’s Business Capital City.


Together with that, Mr Kamoga hailed the Members of Parliament (MPs) for passing a new Finance Bill for 2024/25 financial year.

He said the new regulations which came into effect from 1st July 2024 will further improve and regulate tax collection sector in the country.

"We have well- prepared to conduct a series of awareness creation towards the tax- payers across the country, focusing to educate them over the newly introduced regulations," he informed.

He added that, following a vital metamorphosis in the tax- paying sector in the country, TRA will work round the clock to improve its tax- collecting systems, especially through adopting cloud- connected facilities with an eye to easy and fast- tracking the involved process.

And he urged the tax- payers, and the other Tanzanians to visit at the TRA's pavilion in order to acquire more awareness pertaining to tax - paying, but also to receive other relevant services.

"The major challenge that currently facing huge percent of the tax- payers in Tanzania, especially the traders is poor awareness and seriousness in record keeping," 

"During the time to review, compute and set needed tax estimations, usually from January to March, we're often facing a major challenge following failure by most traders to manage their business flow records," he expressed. 

To great extent, Mr Kamoga observed that the challenge is due to failure by most of the ttaders to issue electronic fiscal devices (EFDs) receipts to their esteemed customers.

" TRA wishes to remind all traders and the other service providers to issue EFD receipts to their customers, and not otherwise," he urged.

He underscored over the need for the public (customers) to adopt the patriotic culture of demanding EFDs receipts whenever they purchase any commodity, or receiving any service through the formal systems.


" Having the EFDs receipts is very necessary, because apart from enabling the Government to effectively collect taxes, the receipts is vital for customer's security," he insisted. 

He similarly urged the public to use the TRA's developed Hakiki Stempu in order to stand a professional side to verify quality of products.

 "Hakiki Stempu is an application that allows the public to check whether the product they are about to purchase is genuine or not. This application will scan the product to check if it has the right tax stamp. The app will detect the number of the tax stamp, its type, and whether it is genuine or not. The user will be given a result that will let them know if the product is genuine or not," he detailed.
