THE Tanzania Agricultural Seeds Agency (ASA) has trained the youth who are taking part in the Building a Better Tomorrow Youth Initiative for Agribusiness Program (BBT-YIA) on production of various seeds.
The beneficiaries involved a total of 79 youth from the BBT-YIA’s Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute (MATI) llonga incubation centre, in Kilosa district of Morogoro region.
They practically received agronomic practices for theeeds varieties for sunflower, greengram, as well as the palm oil seedlings.
The training was conducted at the ASA's Msimba seed farm in the Kilosa district under the supervision of ASA's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Sophia Kashenge.
The on-farm training held freely also based on irrigation farming and on how best to tap and benefit from numerous economic opportunities that the agricultural sector has in offering.
While imparting the youth with the training, Dr. Kashenge urged them to use the program, BBT-YIA, to acquire useful farming knowledge for assisting them to successfully venture into mass production of key economic cash crops.

Being the state-owned seed agency, the CEO said ASA will continue standing at forefront and keen to support the ministry of agriculture in the implementation of the BBT initiative.
On his part, the director of the Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute (MATI) llonga, Christina Wuiya, thanked the ASA for imparting the youth with the key knowledge.
The BBT program coordinator, Bili Kaduma said the government through the parent ministry had developed and is now implementing the initiative with an eye to increase employment for young people to three (3) million and increase the growth of the agricultural sector to 10 percent by 2030.
Under the program, which attracts a total of 812 across the country, each youth is given at least 10 acres of land upon completion of the training for the production of various crops. BBT-YIA’s core vision is to enhance the engagement of youth in the agricultural sector for sustainable and improved livelihoods.
