THE office of the National Prosecution Service (NPS) in cooperation with the e-Government Authority (e-GA) yesterday launched a digital system to help speeding -up service delivery in management and meting out of judgements of criminal cases.
Dubbed ‘Case Management Information System’(CMIS), the new cloud-connected system has specifically been tailored for gathering, processing and keeping records pertaining to criminal cases.
Speaking yesterday when gracing a special event to officially inaugurating use of the system at the NPS headquarters in Dodoma Capital City, Minister of State in the President's Office (Public Service Management and Good Governance), George Simbachawene, said the development will play key role to improve service delivery at the potential public institution, NPS.
“Since its inception, the e-Government system has been playing a meaningful role in increasing efficiency and transparency at the public institutions; thus, I remain optimistic that the NPS office will benefit the same,” he added.
Minister Simbachawene expressed that the digital system is acting as the ‘Brain’ of the government, due to its positive manner in which it helps to reduce service burden in service delivery at the public institutions.
And he unveiled, through the e-Government system, a total of 17, 411 criminal cases have so far been registered, whereby out of the cases, at least 7,361 cases have come to an end and judgements have been issued.
Moreover, he added that, a total of 10,050 cases are currently at different levels of judgements, thanks to the e-system.
“To be honest, the e-Government system has come along with numerous achievements towards improving service delivery at the NPS office. This is a good example to be adopted by all public institutions that involve in service delivery towards the public,” he insisted.
He observed that effective use of the e-Government system in the public institutions was a promising vehicle to assist the country attain the set and much needed 2025 National Development Vision, together with the National Development Plan ((2021/22 -2025/26).
“We have gathered here today (Yesterday) for the purpose of officially hand- over to the NPS’s office the digital system, called ‘Case Management Information System’(CMIS), together with the official website of the NPS,”he infomed.
On her part, speaking during the event, the Deputy Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Pauline Gekul, said that President Samia Suluhu Hassan has always been insisting that all public institutions ust install and make sober use of the system.
She added that through use of e-justice, the system will play a pivotal role to improve deliverance of justice.
And the Director General (DG) of the e-Government Authority (e-GA) Eng. Benedict Ndomba, said the Agency will continue to ensure all public institutions adopt use of the vital system in order to scale up service delivery.
The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Sylvester Mwakitalu,said installation of the digital system at the office will assist him to speed up issuance of criminal cases judgements, as well as improving other vital services.
“We’re very grateful, and appreciating the great work being done by the e-GA to construct and install this system at my office,” he said.
Electronic government (or e-Government) is the application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to government functions and procedures with the purpose of increasing efficiency, transparency and citizen participation
