Govt Assures Certified Procurement Professionals Improved Payment

THE highly certified pocurement and supply professionals in Tanzania must have all reasons to smile as the government has pledged to improve their monthly payment packages,  as well as working conditions.

The Finance Minister,  Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has directed the top officers at the Procurement and Supplies Professionals and Technicians Board (PSPTB) to immediately develop and submit to his office a proposal draft for the salary increment of the said procurement professionals.

He issued the directives yesterday (December 12, 2023) when blessing the opening of the 4th edition of the Procurement and Supply Professionals Annual General Conference in Arusha City.

It was after to have been told by the Chairman of the PSPTB board of directors,  Jacob Kibona that despite playing vital role in help improve the country’s procurement and supply chain management,  the said experts are not paid the deserved salaries. 


In his quick response,  the Finance Minister vowed that he will work to assure the said professionals are start receiving the encouraging payments as well as treated with a 'gloved hands' by their respective institutions. 

"Make sure you immediately dispatch the proposal draft for the payment improvement of the professionals and I will endorse it on the spot," he told the PSPTB Board of directors and the Permanent Secretary (PS) of the finance ministry. 

He expressed,  in the other sector, for instance in the law and accountant sector, those who holds high certificates are respected and paid accordingly,  saying it should be the same situation for those in procurement and supply sector. 

"It's high time we must value the professionals who spent years and money to acquire high education levels in their professionalism," he insisted. 

The minister unveiled that the government was giving the procurement and supply sector meaningful priority as it touches at least 70 percent of the country’s annual budget.


"Over 70 percent of national budget is being spent on public procurement and supply, and thus, it is imperative for the sector to be monitored by the highly professionals, " he expressed. 

Coordinated by Procurement and Supplies Professionals and Technicians Board (PSPTB), the annually- staged event which sails on at the Arusha-based International Conference Center (AICC) is attended by  procurement and supply practitioners, tender board members, accounting officers, auditors, engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, pharmacists, academicians, consultants, researchers, policy makers, business community, entrepreneurs, suppliers, contractors, Non-government organizations (NGOs), as well as any other stakeholders.

It convening under the main theme of "Digital transformation For Improving Procurement And Supply Chain Management Towards Sustainable Development"

The gathering is seating under the auspices of numerous companies, which include Zanzibar Insurance Cooperation (ZIC), Dynatech Solutions, Shades of Green Safaris, the Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL), Bravado Solutions, Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF), Bisech Tour Company, Nekira Company Ltd,  Haier Tanzania, e- Government (e-GA), Tanzania Standard Newspapers (TSN), Soft Tech Consultant and UTT AMIS.

Others are Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA),National Insurance Corporation of Tanzania (NIC), Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), UCSAF,  Fair Competition Commission (FCC), , National Social Security Fund (NSSF), ational Housing Corporation ( NHC) as well as  Workers Compansation Fund ( WCF).
