THE government has successfully increased budget allocation towards the Procurement and Supplies Professionals and Technicians Board (PSPTB), at least to the tune of 8.5 percent.
With the increament, the state-owned Institution, PSPTB, which is charged with the responsibilities of developing, monitoring and controlling Procurement and Supplies Professionals in the public and private sectors in the country is now working various strategies to elevate the performance of the key sector.
The development was unveiled today (February 2, 2024) in Dodoma Capital City by the PSPTB Executive Director, Mr Goodfred Mbanyi.
He was speaking when chaired the Board's Council Meeting which convened to review over performance in the implementation of the past budget.
Among others, Mr Mbanyi informed that the Board's ahead focus was to improve use of Information Technology (IT) in the country’s procurement and supply chain, in order to assure for more professionalism in service delivery.
"We're very keen to ensure the sector is managed and operated more digitally in order to overcome several challenges that used to thwart a smooth pace and quality in service delivery, " he expressed.
According to him, the envisaged initiative will play key role in improving efficiency in procurement and supply chain by reducing manual works which often used to result onto some possible mistakes and delay in services delivery.
He insisted that the government, through the Finance Ministry had instructed that all process in pertaining to procurement and supply must now be accomplished through the well developed digital portal, the National e-Procurement System of Tanzania (NeST), observing that the planned strategy was part to comply to the directives.
He briefed, among others, the meeting will receive performance reports from the directors from each Developments at the PSPTB, as well as constructive criticisms and options from the members.
He urged the members of the vital meeting to use the podium fruitfully through airing positive opinions for the betterment of the office's performance.
On her side, the PSPTB Head of Marketing and Public Relations Unit, Ms Shamim Mdee informed that the Board was set to embark on a special program to educate the relevant professionals and stakeholders in various regions.
According to Ms Mdee, the program will commence in Mwanza region, where it will provide useful awareness towards the sector.
"In Mwanza region, the program which will commence next week will capacitate the upcoming procurement professionals at the St. Augustine University (SAUT) and the College of Business Education (CBE)," Mdee briefed.
Moreover, she said the program which will include use of various media outlets to disseminate the vital awareness will later in the future extended to others regions across the country.
The Procurement and Supply Professionals and Technicians Board (PSPTB) is a government institution established by Act No. 23 of 22007. PSPTB is charged with the responsibilities of developing, monitoring and controlling Procurement and Supplies Professionals in the public and private sectors in the country.
