NBS In Countywide Strategy To Sensitize Use Of Statistics

THE National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has underscored over a need for increased use of statistics among the public and private sectors across the country. 

Through use of the useful data, it has been observed, the institutes in question will stand a more professional side to execute their daily roles, especially those targeting to cater for the public.

Giving an interview to this publication during the just- ended event for the observation of the 2024 National Education, Innovation and Creativity in Tanga City, the NBS Senior Marketing Officer, Mr Andrew Punjila expressed that NBS was working efforts to create and disseminate key awareness over the impontart of use statistics. 

The state-owned statistics developer bureau participated in the annually staged exhibitions which convened for a week-long at the Tanga-based popular Popatilal Secondary School grounds with an eye to further educating the public on the importance of using data.

"Awareness over use of diverse statistics remains low in Tanzania because majority are far away from knowing the meaningful role that statistics play in help pushing for the smooth rolling out of key  socioeconomic services," he unveiled. 

To that end, Punjila communicated that NBS was currently implementing an array of viable strategies to create awareness over use of statistics.

"For instance, use of statistics is crucial to enable giant traders, as well as others service providers to know the exactly number of human population that they're dealing with in the areas of their businesses and services rolling out," he insisted. 

Dwelling on specific vision, he infomed that the ongoing initiative focuses among others, to disseminate useful statistic knowledge to the young generation, starting from the pupils at various primary schools in the country up to university level.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has a  mandate to provide official statistics to the Government of Tanzania, business community and the public at large. It is based in Dodoma and obtains a wide range of economic, social and demographic statistics about the country.
